Congratulations to ZTF Solar System student volunteers, Hanjie Tan, at NCU, and Kunal Deshmukh, at IIT, who recently discovered two rapidly moving NEOs, 2019 OX3 and 2019 PH3, a few lunar distances away!

The Zwicky Transient Facility has discovered a pair of eclipsing white dwarfs which orbit each other in only 6.9 minutes. This strong LISA gravitational wave source exhibits a rapidly decaying orbit due to the emission of gravitational radiation.

discovered the asteroid 2019 AQ3 which has the shortest "year" of any recorded asteroid and is among the first asteroids found whose orbit is confined almost entirely within the orbit of Venus. See the full story here:

has so far discovered 50 small near-Earth asteroids and more than 1100 supernovae, and it has observed more than 1 billion stars in the Milky Way. continues to deliver for the astro community. Have a look at our latest press release

Weird object ZTF02Rm found by last night. Current nominal orbit has q=0.15 au, a=0.66 au. H=22.5 suggests a size of perhaps 100-m. But most intriguingly, it seems to have a rotational period (?) of 10-sec or so. Did someone lose a spacecraft/booster out there?

So we discovered yesterday from data that Comet 123P/West-Hartley had unexpectedly brightened (had an outburst). I was able to quickly trigger observations with 0.4m telescopes on Tenerife and get more images confirming the outburst. More follow-up wanted!

just found a pretty interesting interior-to-Earth object (IEO) 2019 AQ3! In the attached discovery snapshot you can see it moving against the sky background. It is quite large (~1.4 km) and has the shortest orbital period of all known asteroids (~165 days).
