“Arctic” means “the land of bears” and "Antarctic" means "opposite the land of bears". The bears refer to the Ursa Major and Ursa Minor constellations, not polar bears.

Arguing that "carnivores kill cattle but vegans kill field mice" is the wrong way to compare the two, as it draws a false moral/environmental equivalence. Monoculture crops are vastly more devastating than the "dead mice" argument suggests. To understand why, you need to grasp...

I also think there's an opportunity to rope a few other cryptography-forward teams into contributions here, eg . Hoping it'd expose a bunch of Go devs to Zcash as well🤷‍♂️

A turnstile is like a Z2Z transaction except you must pass through a transparent address first Since you're coming from zaddr and leaving to zaddr, the sender & receiver is shielded via zero knowledge proofs Only the amount is revealed Audit the Zed -check!

Discipline your thoughts towards what is true & useful (). Serve as an example. Take your info diet seriously and cut sources with any trace of poison. Quarantine yourself from toxic, contagious memes. (Sorry if this is cranky - I have the flu 😝🤒🤮😷)

Want to save lives? Give to an EA fund . Want to specifically stop flu deaths? Go volunteer at a clinic & reduce the 10k/year American deaths. But that's not what you want. You want some cheap distraction because it's easier than working on your life.

So what should you do? Learn your circle of control. Work on your own life first. Over time, choose a plausible way to efficiently help humanity and push forward steadily. Ignore or douse outrage fires in yourself, family, and community.

Ever laughed at preppers? Congrats, you’re one of them now. Sneer at anti-vaxxers? Congrats, you now share their category - you’ve let your mind be hijacked by overblown concerns about small but real fears to your own personal detriment.

But you don’t work for the WHO. You've never been to Wuhan. Probably you don’t even know anyone who has. You aren’t part of the mismatched team of stubborn weirdos working on the real problem. You’re just a free billboard for any news that pattern-matches “exciting movie plot”.

I’m glad the CDC & WHO obsess, worry, debate, and study things like nCoV. That’s their job, and I thank God they exist & are funded. There's clear black swan risk & it’s critical that professionals be tracking, crafting countermeasures, and de-risking for the humanity.

I’m glad that China is now acting strongly. I'm glad the tiny number of actually-exposed people in the US (PUIs) are tracked, quarantined, tested, and monitored. That’s sensible, practical, and worthwhile. That’s our circle of control.

We worry way too much about the wrong things - distant plagues instead of our own personal health. We use toxic shock media to distract ourselves from presence in our own life. We're manipulated by actors, foreign & domestic, who use high-valence bait to sucker our attention.

By spreading fear porn, you might as well be a Russian bot account, spreading controversy-stoking political ads. These virulent memes, like political outrage, have no direct physical effect, but directly impede our sense of the Stoic circle of control.

Metacontrarian take on nCoV: Your panic is the real pandemic. We live in an age of anxiety, where global connected media have driven us to a fever pitch of unhealthy obsession with irrelevant distant events. Our brains are hijacked by amplified signals of primitive threats.

That creates in my opinion problems that dwarf any comparative sell pressure. ICOs are a terrible model. It's like doing an IPO at the seed investment stage. Crushes incentive alignment.

If this is a plot to get high stake cases on the Aragon Court as soon as it is active, this is brilliant. Either way it's time for the transparency we were promised. Looking forward to some clarifications on this matter.
