A thing I wish I knew about Thoreau as a teenager was that his mother brought him sandwiches and Walden Pond was on her property. I think I might have made some different life choices had I understood that.

Love the Trancendentalists, fascinated me to think of the Concord group contrasting with Henry Adams political family at same time. Mainly remember the mosquitos at Walden Pond, which made me so grateful for lack of mosquitos in Santa Cruz, CA.

The only thing I remember about Walden Pond is taking my German Shepherd puppy there, where he found a dead turtle & rolled in it. Good thing he loved baths & showers; he got both that time. Not sure if that says anything about Thoreau.

All his meals, I believe, and his sister would come and clean the place for him and yeah, I learned that just last year and it explained everything about both the writing world + male privilege in one go, and I want a tshirt that read's "Thoreau should have starved to death"
