This is a form of genocide. Theft of land, the breaking up of our nations, is the beginning of the end for legal recognition of Native Americans. If reservations can just be disestablished, the rights we are guaranteed in treaties cannot be delivered.

It’s important to remember that the government has NEVER given native people ANY rights. Our rights are inherent. We have valid and binding treaty rights, and it’s scary to watch the Trump administration dismiss them so wholly.

The taking of our land isn’t only a political and material loss, but a spiritual one. I believe we will persevere. But if the secretary of interior continues down this road, things will get even worse for native folks. And we can’t really afford that. Survival will be hard.

This thread doesn’t make the most sense, but it’s honestly an overwhelming problem. With the way the federal courts and SCOTUS have been stacked, we could be entering a new era of federal Indian policy that is really scary.

This makes me both very sad and very angry. Knowing the past of injustice done in US against native people, I had always held hope, that in the future, reason would prevail and certain rights and areas of great importance would be rightfully returned to the native people :(
