// opponents acclaim that "majority of drivers ... want to remain ICs to keep flexibility to choose where, when and for how long ... to work." Thing is, that majority does a minority of the work & full timers work too many hours to have "flexibility."

Most critical lines in this piece on injury to by /: "ride-hailing companies came along and set prices *artificially* low" & "millions of amateur drivers are content to make close to minimum wage driving for [them]."

After countless claims that / don't apply to them, sure is working hard to restructure its ops to pass . But w/base fare being theirs, drivers' freedom being limited to multipliers thereof, and surge/promotions continuing, I say undue influence remains.

The SMART of /: a latest example of mega projects whose service cost v revenue don't justify capital investment; there's wasn't/isn't a strong market. Ample projects that would deliver more value per dollar were passed up to fund this debacle.

How disgusting. Really hoping strategy doesn't become new normal for large enterprises. But, then again, it was really just an over version of the standing normal, wasn't it?

As I read David Jones' "Urban Policy," it's enlightening to see how effectively all modes of motorized in the US have a common pattern: investment/hype rooted in miscalculated ROI and local benefits, leading to public takeover and commitment traps.

This is a key reason I support /. The notion that the law will allow same amount/nature of work, just with better pay, is nonsense. But it is needed to correct the public impact of having way too many car and car-miles for demand; it will facilitate scaling.

To costs money. But what it costs to provide roads and transit is far greater than what the commuter pays -- meaning commuting and the associated are subsidized lifestyles.

As Director (2012-16), my efforts to advance wBART were greatly hampered by parochialsm in -- in great part b/c those who'd benefit weren't geographically represented on City Council. District-based elections will ensure all areas a voice.

This is what cities need to prepare for -- the end of the and disruption it will generate for those who have come to depend on it for travel and work; not it serving as some precursor for a make believe society of app-based vehicles.
