I’m about to finish up my time in the fields, and wanted everyone to know that we (farmworkers) are paid $7 for two gallons of blueberries. How much do you pay for your blueberries?

Glad to see Walmart and Target committing to close their stores on Thanksgiving Day. It was a bad idea to have them open even before the pandemic.

RT : Good arguments from for why now is the time for companies to raise wages for their employees. Although may seem counter-intuitive in a crisis, 1) it’s the right thing to do and 2) it will create greater long term value.

For leaders of companies with low-wage frontline workers, action plan needs to include increasing pay and targeting 100% internal promotion for supervisor roles -and making sure race is considered. 11% of retail workers are Black but less than 9% of supervisors.

Paying more is a choice-and a profit maximizing choice. There are companies that thrive making this choice and academic evidence. But many CEOs and board members don't seem to believe in this choice. There are some good reasons for their denial.

White people often stay quiet on racism because they feel it's not their place to speak up. Just as sexism is not only a "women's issue," racism is not only a "black issue." Now is not the time for silence. We all have a responsibility to raise our voices against injustice.

Great to see biz leaders expressing their desire to work together to eliminate injustice this world. Commitment to providing living wages and treating employees with respect & dignity would be a fabulous way to put action to words.

A powerful and painful analysis of where we are, and why America may be less able to recover from conflict and violence than we were in the 1960s: polarization, feedback loops, & institutional dysfunction. From

The wages of health care support workers are so low that nearly 20% live in poverty and more than 40% rely on some form of public assistance. How is this acceptable in our society? Essential workers should be paid living wages.

This is a great time for businesses to switch from treating labor as their largest cost, to be minimized, over to a "good jobs" strategy, which pays off in the long run. explains how, and why now:

Winner take all seems to apply to so few contexts yet billions were invested there-business models built off the backs of low wage workers with no profitability in sight. What if that money went to good businesses that pay workers well and make money? Just asking...

"When trust in businesses & institutions is particularly low & when many criticize the gap between executive pay & workers’ pay, this is the time for more leaders to have the courage and commitment to rebuild their businesses with good jobs."

This is a moment when 1) trust in businesses & institutions is low & 2) many criticize the gap between executive pay & workers’ pay. No better time for leaders to have the courage & commitment to rebuild their businesses with good jobs. ⁦

In my last lecture to MIT students yesterday I shared this hope: As you consider which business leaders to look up to, I hope you’ll choose those who have created "good” businesses—financially, competitively and morally, versus those who went for creating the biggest at all costs

Nice words. I hope they come with pay raises for JP Morgan's frontline workers who don't make a living wage. Higher wages for frontlines- including millions of essential workers- is what we need for a more inclusive economy.
