Disagree - I do a solid shift #2 - meals, laundry, clean, dog, driving kids ...and know many other male profs who do the same!

I saw this as a plumber analogy the other day. You get hired as a plumber to fix pipes, and get judged on how many you fix, but you spend your entire day doing a myriad of pipe-unrelated things so you fix pipes on your own time.

As a parent it seems more like academia is the 4th shift: Getting everyone to school on time, fed, clothed and with bags, lunches etc. each morning is intense.
