I continue to believe the press should stop using the names and photos of mass casualty shooters to avoid the “shoot up your school, gain infamy” incentive that seems to be a factor in some of these incidents.

I think you have to publish the name. It's the news. It's a question of how much time/space you give it in a relative sense on cable news, at least from the seat I'm in and trying to make the call about.

I first wrote about this in longform in 2012. The progress I see is that the idea is not dismissed or ignored. But intense coverage and profiles of killers goes on. In print & on cable news.
