Okay new thread with this question. My Iphone 5S is just rebooting over and over again. Any advice? I will head over to Apple store as soon as I can. I am abroad. Do you think it will work if I buy a new phone and switch my US SIM to it? Also I WANT SIGNAL BACKUP OPTION.

No, then I lose all my old Signal messages. I have to try to get this phone fixed. Even if I get a new phone just to save the day, I cannot install Signal on the new phone without trying everything possible to salvage the old one. No back up option in Signal means this.

Eek, now I have to *walk* to an Apple store without Google maps for direction. Anyone who has seen me try to find my way anywhere knows what this means. If I am not heard from, please send Google Maps.

Not everyone who uses Signal needs highest security; a backup option—especially if turned on contact by contact—would accelerate adoption. Most of the time, that's why I can't get people to use Signal at all, which hinders Signal for the truly at-risk.https://twitter.com/hibaymj/status/996024523727233025 …

Also, to get into my iCloud, I need 2FA with ... my non-working phone or a text to my phone. (I'm getting around this with a temporary phone at the Apple store at the moment but I guess I'm testing out all the 2FA hard problems in one go!)

Does anyone know if buy an Apple iPhone (SE) in Europe and find that the different antenna configuration degrades performance too much in the US, I can return the phone in the US? (SE has different versions with different LTE antennas). Asking for .. nobody in particular.

Also, does anyone, ahem, know if iPhone SE (Model A1723) which isn't optimized for T-Mobile or AT&T in the US but will kinda work degrades terribly because of lack of the exact optimization of the right antennas? I know it will work but how much of a performance loss?

I think the hardware is the same: a crappy F antenna along the top and standard Qualcomm modem and RF transceiver chips. The chips support all cellular modes and 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE frequency bands and band combinations. The bands in use/excluded on a phone are software defined

Yeah, I think I will be fine with the phone... It is ordinarily under warranty, if it weren't for Signal backup issues, I'd get a new one for free! I'm now trying to deal with whether there is any hope for it or not. :-(
