Okay new thread with this question. My Iphone 5S is just rebooting over and over again. Any advice? I will head over to Apple store as soon as I can. I am abroad. Do you think it will work if I buy a new phone and switch my US SIM to it? Also I WANT SIGNAL BACKUP OPTION.

At the moment, both iMessage and WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted but log metadata. Signal does not. Unfortunately, lack of Signal backup option means I will chose to let metadata be logged. No more Signal for me. It will affect how I can communicate.

I have a new phone! If you're one of the many I said I'd only talk to you on Signal: It's now only iMessage or WhatsApp. Not installing Signal on my new phone. 1-I'd lose old Signal messages in case phone recovered. 2-No more Signal for me till iOS backups are possible. I'm done.

True for standard androids. I assume you've looked into copperhead versions as well?

Phone sized small metal box like cigarettes case. NO radio/phone signal gets in or out. Only way to truly disable location services on many modern devices

But you definitely have more control over with developer options and it being open source but if you say android not safe then I trust you on that.

Purchase a Nokia E71. Just old enough that the concept of tracking is near impossible. You can use email, light browsing, text. You would need to choose not to be more connected when mobile. This may be an added benefit.

I don't know...I use android and I don't have any of those problems. A couple afternoons learning how root works and installing a firewall, system hosts, service/receiver manager, and titanuim backup. These dilemmas you're speaking of are very trivial

i have to agree with
@zeynep here. it's trivial for us power users but very daunting for regular people - Show replies

Signal backup on Android is a farce anyway. Can't backup media or MMS, can't restore to a new phone. Functionally useless.
