I know many academics who are not traditional liberals in many issues (academia is conservative in many areas!) but do not carry R-identification because, seriously, climate change is a hoax and evolution is a lie aren't conservative ideas, but routine among R candidates.

Of course I understand difference between party affiliation and ideology (thought two are correlated). My point was in favor of viewpoint diversity. For equally science-denying ideas on the L, consider 'sex is arbitrary' and 'GMO are physiologically harmful' or 'vaccines are bad'
