Google Assistant making calls pretending to be human not only without disclosing that it's a bot, but adding "ummm" and "aaah" to deceive the human on the other end with the room cheering it... horrifying. Silicon Valley is ethically lost, rudderless and has not learned a thing.

Think of the layers of demos, program meetings, stakeholder reviews, etc, etc, etc, that went into this thing before any of us even KNEW about it. It never struck anyone in that huge, faceless chain as kinda creepy? There's really no excuse for the way this launched.

It hasn't launched yet and it may never fully launch. How is it creepy to have a bot make the call identify and handle business for you that you can't handle at the moment.. We use assistants all the time to reserve tables and such.. Why is this different? Oh wait, it's the call.

Google stated they would put a bot identifier and it does solve many issues.. Bots are used all the time.. Wait, is it the fact that it sounds so human? I'm sure Google will put it through beta tests before mass release to see how it fairs.. They are concerned about ethics

this conversation reminds me the natural responds of human towards new technology ...fear ... When car was first introduced, people were adamant towards it. In 1890's, Bicycle, yes women were discourage to use it for various of reasons, stems from ego of the man. History repeats!

You talk tough now; wait until you're in an elder care facility with nothing but vengeful, pitiless robots to care for you (but not about you).

We might want to watch spokespeople for those signs captives are supposed to give when their statements are coerced by our new AI overlords. <realizing it's perhaps too cute by a half> Sort of a reverse captcha.

It is a demo, and this is the discussion that is supposed to happen - before it becomes a product. I much prefer this route than some of the morally questionable apps that suddenly spring up without any public opportunity to comment.

I saved up pennies from my menial labor job as a tween—legally too young; I snuck in—to buy a computer to learn to code.
Anyway, writing longer.
if it is but they have a direction where they want to be (it will be easier for them to go through social and see what ppl want to actually use this for)
2) assuming that this will be used for just good is too good of you
