Google Assistant making calls pretending to be human not only without disclosing that it's a bot, but adding "ummm" and "aaah" to deceive the human on the other end with the room cheering it... horrifying. Silicon Valley is ethically lost, rudderless and has not learned a thing.

And people with anxiety and other challenges that make it harder for them to talk on the phone: This will ruin what could otherwise be a helpful technology for you. Reckless deployment isn't your friend. To preserve a channel for accessibility support, you must be extra careful.

Anyway, back to typing out all the (obvious!!! it's 2018!!!) points on why this is such a bad idea at so many levels. Still flabbergasted that basic dynamics of deploying stuff like that at scale just isn't thought through... IT IS 2018.

"It's just a demo" people aren't getting the full scale of problems. Also Google putting a bot identifier at the beginning of call doesn't solve the many problems.https://twitter.com/getaclue_1/status/994918625906700289 …

I agree that we have to immediately begin building in the expectation that a bot will always be signaling itself but audibly and visually.

It should replicate as closely as possible the experience of calling an automated helpline, but in reverse: an unnaturally cheery and dramatic tone, with a really annoying and earwormy musical jingle playing in the background whenever it talks. :)

Also: 1) ppl that say it was just a demo - ok
if it is but they have a direction where they want to be (it will be easier for them to go through social and see what ppl want to actually use this for)
2) assuming that this will be used for just good is too good of youThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I saved up pennies from my menial labor job as a tween—legally too young; I snuck in—to buy a computer to learn to code.
Anyway, writing longer.
