I'm on a number of Yahoo! Groups lists related to autism for my brother, and I see that they get regular use. Perhaps it's a fraction of use on Facebook, but the possibility does exist. The real problem is the quality of advice being shared, which is atrocious/dangerous.

I don't mean to say that communication about medical conditions overall is bad. Just that when you add one or two (or 500) conspiracy theorists to a crowd of desperate patients or caretakers, it can be worrisome. But who will pay MDs to join and monitor? Not insurance companies!
