This logic doesn't make any sense. "Apple is selling a more expensive phone so they must be keeping my data to myself" Do you have sources to back up your claim that Google is the only one harvesting user data?

Ok, but I just hope that you're not assuming Apple doesn't harvest your data. That would be a grave mistake. And to think that they don't sell your data, even if it's anonymized, would also be a grave mistake.

Apple has locked itself out of a good deal of the user data. It often doesn’t have your data to sell. Just look at the court cases. You’re not being objective or informed here.

Also, iCloud data (contacts, calendars, photos, documents, etc.) is stored on S3 and Google Cloud Platform servers, which has its own implications about who is tracking this data. https://images.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf …

Although, this is stored encrypted in chunks w/ AES-128. So, I'm not sure what could be used to sell. Surely, there's metadata there though.

Please don't tell me I'm not objective. In a diff thread, I talk about how Google is behind Apple in several regards. Also, I think my ease in pointing out specific details in Apple's security and privacy policies goes to show that I am informed.

Please point me to other sources if you think I'm misled. I am genuinely willing to read more detailed of Apple's stances on user data 🙂. (not being sarcastic or snarky)

Look at the recent brouhaha with Facebook accessing content and metadata of SMS messages on Android. On iOS, that doesn’t happen—even iMessages are E2E. Also court cases and LE response is very telling. IOS is more secure, locked down and user-privacy oriented.

Yes, Facebook SMS access is a catastrophe at face-value. This data wasn't accessed without explicit user consent, however. The only diff here is that Google allowed Facebook to do so after asking for consent. Not necessarily a security issue.

Google has already fixed these types of issues in newer versions of Android. But, maybe they should disallow SMS access from 3rd party apps altogether, even if a user is willing to consent to this access.
