Yep! Being accurate matters. Facebook has zero business interest in selling anyone’s data. If anything, that’s what would undermine their actual business.https://twitter.com/flashboy/status/978777785589170177 …

Data ownership won’t save us—it’s a step with very complicated implications. *adds to pieces to write* https://twitter.com/bandanachris/status/978800850582757376 …

I wonder legislation would look like that would help but not become obsolete quickly.

Simple. If you are talking about a valve or inanimate object, it is not personal data, but may be a security issue still. If you claiming it is about a human i.e. using words like 'attention' then it is personal data.

Slimy. Lawmakers could also classify 'attention' and any other abstract noun relating to people but measured digitally as 'personal' data.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

So, Facebook doesn't sell our data; Facebook just gives away our data to people who give Facebook lots of money?
-
You’ve heard all of the talk about FB giving away “friend” data to developers via their pre V2.0 API? That’s all free - devs didn’t have to pay (although some would have been buying ads at the same time). Also, Facebook actually buys data on users. https://www.propublica.org/article/facebook-doesnt-tell-users-everything-it-really-knows-about-them …

I mean, exactly. Restricting third party access to user information is, to a first approximation, Facebook's current business model. If that's is the "win" we get out of this whole mess, then we've absolutely played ourselves.
-
Also restricting access means third party researchers have even less ability to verify whether FB's claims about monitoring misinformation are accurate. Feels like loads of people have missed there are two separate issues here, that pull in opposite directions.

Not exactly. Facebook is selling demographic data to advertisers. On a granular level.
-
Not individual data that I’ve ever seen. What do you mean?
