Is there any sphere that Uber hasn’t been caught doing sleazy stuff? There should be rules on testing for everyone, but thrice for Uber. They will ruin potential safety improvements for all of us.

I'd say it's very arguable if they will be good for safety. We simply don't know yet what their safety record will be and this complete failure suggests pessimism. And if total miles traveled increases AVs could kill more people even if the rate is lower.

“If”? I don’t think any number of jobs justifies the loss of human life we’re talking about. “Sorry your mom is dead, but truck drivers had families to feed.”

If the real choice is between more car crashes and a civil war due to economic collapse, I'll take the car crashes.

With the failure rate that high, Uber car prototypes should be just passively collecting sensor data while a human is driving. The development would most likely go faster that way FFS.

Why do we assume self-driving cars will be safer? Name a piece of software that doesn’t have bugs or security holes.
