It's not even just the permissions, it's what they do with them. There are plenty of apps that need a permission to do something small, but get more access than they need — we've had this issue with Briar.
Does using the mobile web page via safari instead of the app ameliorate these concerns ?
e.g., "We need the storage permission so you can select a picture as a user icon" and "We're going to exfiltrate every file you've stored" look the same
Minimizing and matching data and access to permitted function, and new ways to do more with revealed information through encryption and more—so much innovation is left on the cutting room floor. Silicon Valley is in such a rut.
