Make no mistake: this model *will* change—either after large destructive upheavals, or sooner, proactively. It’s up to Zuck where in the history books he wants to be. Besides, “those” people aren’t worth much to advertisers anyway and even poor people pay do for phones & minutes.https://twitter.com/matthewstoller/status/976808283334901760 …

Also, what the heck? Many of us have been screaming from the rooftops and we don’t have the kind of data Facebook has to better figure all this out. Also, Facebook isn’t building “a community.” That’s not how the world works!! Someone send an emergency sociologist to Menlo Park.pic.twitter.com/GvoiapjTBg

They must then have close to zero influence on anything of importance. Otherwise what is this talk of building “a” community of a user-base of two billion? It’s not just very very wrong and naive—it’s a dangerous way for a social media company to think.https://twitter.com/beh_zod/status/976814381085454336 …

I agree with your second statement. Zuck needs to reconcile the desire to be a “neutral platform” that is the plumbing of the social internet and a very specific (and politicized) view for what “open and connected” means. He can’t have both.
