The immediate leap to hysterical worst case scenarios and conjuring up of imagined harms isn't healthy. There's no upside anymore to even trying to do good with data.

Maybe it’s my part of the world speaking, but I’d also I’d say history suggests that unless you do curtail the worst case scenario, it remains too tempting. Governments find it hard to resist such power.
