Is this supposed to be reassuring? I mean, I guess I *am* glad that some of the world's best paid people working at a company known for investing billions in moonshots unrelated to its own business occasionally catch *some* of the horrific stuff.https://twitter.com/toorsdenote/status/975430611664977920 …

I know people working in Silicon Valley feel defensive but... of course we want to hold these companies accountable for *all* the horrific stuff. Caught a few before going out to the world? Everyone at every industry does that, every day—with so much less privilege and resources.

Google is the second biggest company in the world by market capitalization. (Apple is 1st, Microsoft is 3rd, Amazon is 4th, Facebook is 8th). It invests billions in long-shot projects unrelated to its core business. We catch *some* horrific stuff is a wee bit weak as defense.

Sure. But hold the companies accountable, rather than yelling at employees for not doing enough.

Honestly the fact that employees are making saves rather than the system being better defended in depth is frightening enough, but then to have it said that the employees are doing nothing and chewing individual employees out? Nopenopenope.

I don't think it is yelling (I don't even really yell offline?) to point out that the defensiveness I encounter all the time in Silicon Valley is befuddling & unbecoming of the power and privilege in the place. Of course employees are making saves. That's true in every industry.
