Besides the very long-term horizon here, the brutal truth is tech companies pay very little in taxes, and employ a tiny number of high-paid workers relative to past industries. This well-educated citizenry will be educated how? With what resources?https://twitter.com/robjective/status/964680128092504065 …

There are easy ways to fight this. Disinformation is ineffective against a well educated citizenry. Finland, Sweden and Holland have all taught digital literacy and critical thinking about misinformation to great effect. http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/03/01/why-is-finland-able-to-fend-off-putins-information-war/ …

Yep. I’m an educator. Education *is* part of long term solution. But it’s incredible to hear “we need more education” when critical education’s deliberate destruction is very much aided and abetted by tech’s tax avoidance. But also not enough.https://twitter.com/halftroll/status/965123528470212608 …

Apart from the sound observation that tech companies are part of what is destroying education, education is not enough. That is why we have FDA, OSHA, etc. We also need light: we need access to the social data FB, Google etc. collect from us.

The US has plenty of underemployed and capable people who would love a career in teaching - if it paid decently and had reasonable hours. A big hurdle is getting them back in labor force, which a federal job garauntee could do. #MMT

Ronald McDonald already teaches "health" & "nutrition" in many schools. Maybe he can add digital literacy and critical thinking to his "curriculum". When it fails to work we can then blame the teachers & parents.

“easy ways to fight this” Now that we’ve profited fast and broke things, why don’t the government now just do the easy job of cleaning up the things we broke? Education is easy right?
