In my mind a greater achievement than the moon landings.

The whole thing, right? The theory, the twists, the practical issues, raising that kind of funding, and you finally build the new thing, and, suddenly, all of a sudden... Boom.

I also got to talk with some family members of the LIGO team about all the twists and turns over the years. I think it would be an awesome thriller movie!

Agree. And I believe the odds are very low, like subatomic, there will be at least one drama documentary about it.

How did the family members describe the teams stubbornness not giving up?

Welll, seems like a lot of big, sometimes clashing personalities were involved—but also length of time efforts went on is pretty impressive given what they had to build and troubleshoot.

It is stories like this that helps me calm down and realize problem solving, especially hard problem, takes a long time. Also, it makes learning to love failure easier ;)

But also problem solving, even for hardest seeming problems, can work! "Ripples in Spacetime" by @Astro_Govert has some of the history/failures/daunting technical challenges/personalities aspect.

Yes, and a big part of problem solving is to learn from all the failed attempts. Too many, including me before, discounted failures as wasted time and resources. For too long only success has counted, and been peddled by media and others. Now we need to relearn.

Also, thanks for the book tip, added it to my reading queue. First up though is " WTF?: What's the Future and Why It's Up to Us" by @timoreilly and then "Sapiens" by @harari_yuval.
