ha! Just found out that a professional PR agency that charges for access to contact info etc. for media writers can't tell me apart from another "zeynep tufekci" hence less accurate than Google News alert for my pieces. (Hi @muckrack).

As someone with a surname that is a common word, as soon as it becomes your surname people will be unable to pronounce it. "Zeynep The? Theeee? Tee-Har?" This is why so many people are called "Smith" or "Doe". I go under an assumed name for this reason.
