Understanding white supremacy and fascism is essential. I’ve read more books about Nazis in my life than almost any other topic. (Invite me to your party for great conversation!) That piece? Biggest problem is it’s superficial and uninformative.

Yeah, jumped at me that this was an obvious potential path, not explored at all. Can't be a reporter of modern fascism if you don't understand this dynamic. Profiled guy clearly wasn't about the books he rattled off (bet he hadn't read them).https://twitter.com/GoodmanHarrison/status/934552743179583490 …

Yep. One of many paths of inquiry that just weren't followed, resulting in an uninformative, pointless piece. https://twitter.com/aaronhuertas/status/934613561585885184 …

Yep, the emergent libertarian/white supremacists nexus is fascinating, important, crucial. Fascism is a beat, should be covered by competent, informed reporters who have it as a beat. Problem isn't profiling Nazis, it is doing it poorly.https://twitter.com/estarianne/status/934790443773992960 …

I recognize the challenges of any form of profile, but just spitballing- maybe it would be useful to spend more time speaking to current/ex-acquaintences who witnessed or enable him? To be the polite white supremacist next door you need neighbours who tolerate it
