Saying that Facebook controls what’s in the newsfeed is really no more correct than saying Google controls what’s in search results.

As you obviously know, people FB friend for a wide variety of reasons, and even if they picked a few, there is a glut of posts.

What you encounter obviously influences what gets clicked/picked/liked (propinquity research), lots of feedback loops, momentary metrics etc

However unlikely it seems at the moment, imagine the users as the customers, and all the range of things that could be offered as tools.

We've transitioned to a different info/sharing world & there is a dearth of tools that help people be their better, more deliberate selves.
