I was just thinking about this this morning when one of mine started beeping. It's a horrible UX.
The smoke detectors are loss leaders for battery sales. It’s like your cheap printer and expensive ink combined with building code lobbying.
Mine has electric hookup and batteries. Still beeps every 60s when battery dies. Also too low of smoke threshold-proper cooking sets it off
Thus it usually spends a week at a time with a grocery bag over it.
Our house was brimming with smoke detectors when we moved in and because of 3AM beeps I disconnected about half. Mostly to find the culprit!
I’d like to replace w/ smart detectors that only beep low battery during daytime - if that is a thing that exists. Keep meaning to look.
