Anyway, it's like legalese or overly complicated infosec instructions. Usually ends up with people worse off than with judicious warnings.

Ripping them out and leaving a gaping hole in the ceiling to bent CO and smoke has worked for me in the past.

I watched my electrician install them, so I could immediately disconnect them, take the battery out, and shove them in a drawer. So evil.

I pulled ours out too. Wired to our entire house so if one of the housemates' goes off in their condo, all do.
