I DO appreciate people proposing solutions, but I truly wish it wasn't always wistful ex-Facebookers, and we got listened to in real time.
Russians are a sideshow and a red-herring. They didn't even have a sophisticated operation. Truth: even crude stuff works on FB and on US.
So I agree with some stuff you say, but it is a little tough to keep hearing people say that they didn't see THE OBVIOUS coming.
The issue is structural, and I do believe there are people in Facebook and ex-Facebookers who get this. But The. Problem. Was. Obvious.
So please, please start with helping the rest of the world and current Facebook understand why they keep missing the blatantly obvious.
As Upton Sinclair says: 'It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it."
Obviously, US politics is broken and that isn't on Facebook. But the system y'all built help breaks it even more. So let's start there.
Honestly: I believe the biggest contribution ex-FB'ers can make is not proposing solutions, but explain why they kept missing The. Obvious.
That--why things that are so obvious keeps getting treated as tinfoil--points to structural issues, and we can hopefully go from there.

If a modest sum of ads bought by Russia can sway the presidential election, we should be very, very worried about Zuckerberg4Prez2020.
Dude is getting pictures taken with farmers in Iowa. So you KNOW he's running for president.
