      And Microsoft's EXTRA cash hoard of $100 billion isn't irrelevant. It's partly there because we let software be sold "as is", no liability.

      Also each new version of an OS becomes more secure to fight known threats. XP is 16 years old, impossible to rewrite from scratch.

      I think the solution is to require enterprises to buy insurance against failure/breaches to make quantified risk visible on bottom line.

          Even with updates and patches, our current capitalistic model isn't incentivizing good security solutions -- companies just absorb losses.

          Not sympathetic toward extending xp forever, but this is dead on. We need an infrastructure OS with that longevity in mind. XP wasn't.
