      it's their job to deliver the proper product. of course updates should be non-optional, but also should not use them to undermine privacy.

      Dilemma: need usage data to help identify issues. It's hard to gather usage data without gathering PII. Extensive behind the scenes work

      It would be easier if the business model wasn't based on profiling you and violating basic privacy rights. People wary for a reason.

          That's a legit complaint wrt online vendors, such as google and facebook. MSFT business model behind the issues you raise came long before.
