"Thought typing" is not new at all. I did it back in, hmm, 2011? in a demo. I was a natural! It doesn't read your mind, more like yes/no.

Idk, maybe I'm nuts but seems like jumping to thought-typing 100 words per minute would be a pretty big leap from that point?

Indeed. It happens with decades of NSF and other funding, large teams of scientists; lots of trials and failures and retries.
