Stuff may get stolen. Forces having checked luggage. If laptops are dangerous, aren't they dangerous in cargo? Bring phone with keyboard. 🙄 https://twitter.com/evanchill/status/844135868684288000 …

Also if laptops *are* a threat, they should obviously be banned universally. A terrorist can obviously fly through Europe or South America.

If you're a journalist or an activist, fly with a chromebook. Carry minimal sensitive info anyway. Put it in an encrypted USB—always on you.

puting all your private data on the hands of a public corporation doesn't sound like a proper advise for anyone, esp. for activists

Chromebook. Not Gmail, which is different than using a Chromebook. They don't have your data; you can turn history off.

but I can't run an open source browser like @firefox or the Tor Browser bundle in ChromeOS can I? Chrome != Chromium

Unfortunately, open source is not safer than a properly sandboxed system. (See heartbleed, and all the Firefox weaknesses).

isn't Firefox 52 properly sandboxed? Are you familiar with any vulnerability not patched in any major open source project?

Firefox is getting better, for sure. I am aware of basic vulnerabilities being undiscovered for years. :-( Chromebook=easy to reset.

though my major concern with the ban is that physical access to any machine can get it compromised. Even by nonUS actors.
