The fitness industry steers women towards pink dumbbells--too light to be useful--with the dubious "tone, don't bulk" BS advice. Aaargh.

Look, I learned weights in a basement gym with a single bulb and real bodybuilders. Women CAN'T just bulk. Nope. Don't worry. Not happening.

But women need to do strength, and dumbbells at appropriate weight and sequencing are probably the best way to start for most.

Worse, sequencing that increases too fast 5-10-15-20 (rather than 5-7.5-10-12.5) invites injury. Injury early on makes people quit forever.

This appears like a minor issue but it's not. Exercise (cardio AND strength) is one of the best things you can do for your health. /end rant
