Look, I am not going to say never speak for free. There are few exceptions, but usually those are conferences that DO have a blanket policy.

Tech conferences can be very sterile, insulated from reality--a sector, mostly, insulated from what its products do in the world.

They perpetuate this by paying big numbers to already well-known men (whose job is to sell a business book, often) to address conferences.
