Tech conferences can be very sterile, insulated from reality--a sector, mostly, insulated from what its products do in the world.

They perpetuate this by paying big numbers to already well-known men (whose job is to sell a business book, often) to address conferences.

@jessitron we've struggled with this. Higher ticket prices exclude people you want to listen too. -
I think you will find the people you do want to hear from will speak for less to more accessible conferences.
