Even after the handful of detainee cases get resolved, many legal immigrants, permanent residents, students will be.. in dangerous limbo.

Is this only for detainees who made it to the US? Legal residents are trapped abroad. Won't be allowed on the plane.https://twitter.com/JackieVimo/status/825520108646912000 …

If this is the case, the stay only impacts the very very very few who were in the air when the order came down.https://twitter.com/JessicaHuseman/status/825525603491278848 …

Airlines won't let anyone covered by the EO on planes. Huge fines involved. This stay seems to only apply to a few.https://twitter.com/mattblaze/status/825535778335780864 …

But these are people who have ostensibly valid docs to let them enter US. On what basis to airlines decide?

Those documents are valid only if the US government says they are valid. The stay doesn't seem to cover that. Only detainees.

From experience, the airlines have someone who calls the edge cases (usually against the passenger if in doubt)

And "valid documents" only means that CBP may let you in. With every visa application you sign that CBP has the last word

Yes. that's always been my understanding as well.
