Don't be fooled by seeming successes. NYT does not scale. WaPo's model shift has been accompanied by major errors and destructive clickbait.

Considering the situation seems similar as in other creative industries - thoughts on patreon model for individuals/teams?
but very few successful (large) models like this - & they aren't easy to spin up (cf. @joshtpm w/ TPM, @sullydish for a time).
Too few; can't scale up. They exist because tons of people on the internet come around very few sites.
Unfortunately, people fooled by fake news are likely the same people who won't pay for online content.
Why not consortiums of news orgs where you can bundle several outlets of your choice. People would pay for that!
