Additionally, if people choose to work less with UBI, that opens up more jobs, aka more ways of earning additional money.

If you don't have significant movement on the supply side: meaningful jobs that pay well (shorter hours) and less inequality+

..I think one will find that some income helps with poverty but fuels great frustration, anomie and anger.

I support safety-nets; that is one crisis and UBI can be a safety net. Ceteris paribus, it is not a solution to current woes.

It's not a net. It's a floor. It's really important to understand that. I have it already. I can earn on top http://www.vox.com/first-person/2016/11/14/13513066/universal-basic-income-crowdfund …

That doesn't address the current crisis. I'm fine with basic safety net (though not crowdfunded—not a general solution).

How do you see basic income not addressing the current crisis of lack of income and rising inequality? https://medium.com/basic-income/inequality-and-the-basic-income-guarantee-c8f84d936640#.lydwdptjj …

Not seeing solving the inequality with an income floor. Shorter hours plus safety net (include UBI, ok) is first small step.

It's not just money. Look deeper at the 2nd and 3rd order effects of unconditionally providing an income floor.

As I said, my first guess would be a swift organizing of the pitchforks, with great and rising anger, now matched with time.

I'm not against a reasonable safety net, by the way, including unconditional stipend. Problem is what else is there.

I think it's pretty outmoded to argue for work. There's so much else that people can do. Like the work they want.

the difference btw "work" and what people want to do is that the specialized, unpredictable desired work...pays more

Let's build the proper foundation first, and then talk about what else we need once we then know what we don't need.

Consider for a moment that ubi is not the "foundation" but rather the result of public ownership of the automation.
