Ironically, point of this style contrarianism is clicks. "Of course it played significant role but in complex ways"=less clickable.
Trendy faux-savvy posture dismissing centrality of social media is maybe more annoying than Friedman's absurd Revolution 2.0 posture
Two sides of same simplistic coin; more acceptable to make fun of the latter, I suppose? Equally wrong.
Instinctively I feel dismissing the power of social networks and virality etc is more short-sighted & wrong than overestimating it
