Facebook's algorithm is central to how news & information is consumed in the world today, and no historian will write about 2016 without it.

2016 was a close election where filter bubbles & algorithmic funneling was weaponized for spreading misinformation. http://www.niemanlab.org/2016/11/the-forces-that-drove-this-elections-media-failure-are-likely-to-get-worse/ …pic.twitter.com/cbgrj1TqFb

What a denial of responsibility. If this were true, and Facebook had no influence, it would not be a $400b company. https://twitter.com/MikeIsaac/status/796891604837494784 …

he's not saying FB had no influence though. He may argue that it was a wash (not that I necessarily believe it).

.@dbasch @tqbf I would be very very surprised if fake news on Facebook was remotely a wash. Fake Clinton news was a giant, giant avalanche.

I think the echo chamber has little effect outside of partisans, fake or not. Does it leave the echo chamber?

The echo chamber is the problem, and what it does is galvanize people and harden views.

.@3662brendon @tqbf @dbasch 10% of people who approve of Obama voted for Trump. This is 5% of the electorate. Much more than the margin.
