I think we are talking about the issue in general. I see the proceedings.. even in top conferences.

Probably on this thread. I think the PEW research Jeff highlighted needs to taken seriously by conference committees.

One big issue is the one-time payment vs. a professional, repeat research subject (who's networked with others).

I guess we have parts of this process that is quite hard to scale (on the cheap, or even with a lot of money).
