Friends, I'm logging off. Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm not 100% certain of my plans. I'm in a safe place. I'll wait and seek clarity.

This was one of the most bizarre nights. As I did yesterday, I wish for democracy, free press, rule of law, tolerance and peace.

I am out, talking to people, things are calm in Antalya. Istanbul and Ankara people had it much worse, bombs, gunfire, low flying jets.

There aren't even much police around here. Whatever this was, it was not the full military by far. OTOH, rest of military didn't intervene.

Never thought I'd write: Erdogan takes to Twitter & FaceTime as a coup attempt in Turkey is thwarted by gov't supporters using social media.

Major point people are missing. Very few tanks out there compared to a full military chain-of-command coup.

As I told @bwilliams on @MSNBC, when tanks face off against citizens in the Middle East, tanks almost always win. This time they didn't.

Coup failed by the people at large including the opposition, not just the supporters of the government.
