Sorry—Blair won't even have an embarrassing press conference. He'll just shrug off the reality that most can now see.https://twitter.com/HalaGorani/status/750689866954964992 …

Blair says without 2003 invasion, Iraq could have been Syria, so world should be "thankful" not dealing with Saddam now. #ChilcotReport

Germany welcomed back into humanity only few years after Auschwitz. But Middle East is ancient, unsolvable hatreds.https://twitter.com/phil_tinline/status/750724571851030530 …

      W. Germany was in ECSC *5* years after VE Day. But the occupying-troops-to-civilians ratio was 3x higher than in Iraq. So no chaos.

@phil_tinline you are right in principle. However, Germany was much more homogeneous than Middle East. Much easier to keep peace

Add it up: Europe fought more over Alsace-Lorraine than Middle East sects over a thousand years. Now no issue in EU.

1945 Germany & 2003 Iraq both post-fascist but a big difference: Grmy crushed in war it started; feared resistance minimal

Immediate aftermath of Iraq war also quiet. Remember, people hated Saddam. This could have gone very differently.

The absolute bungling of the occupation was bigger issue than the war. Many friends went to Iraq; no issue at first.

As I said earlier, too few troops & lack of grip were clearly a problem. But what's 1945 version of Zarqawi or Mahdi Army?

If the Allied forces had created, I dunno, a systematic torture by sexual humiliation in jails, they'd show up.

The occupation of Japan & Germany bent the stick in favor of peace and generosity; even at the expense of justice.
