"Respectability" politics deserves criticism when protesters are directed to please those in power. Strategic thinking is something else.

Strategic thinking focuses on the goal—stop Trump—and wonders how different trajectories would play out and then self-regulates accordingly.

/end another thread nobody will listen to. Sad to say I watched this play out in last decade's protest movements and.. I know how it can go.

Oh, ALSO. Trump is not a "real estate mogul"; he is a "reality TV star". He no longer builds anything; he peddles celebrity & licenses name.

Trump's business model now is a lot more Kardashian than Harry Macklowe. Media should call him "reality TV star"; most accurate description.

For the record. Hitler deliberately provoked brawls with protesters as it helped him. Classic authoritarian tactic. https://twitter.com/emmettrensin/status/738597725445357569 …

Provoking & welcoming violence in political events is like a dictionary definition of authoritarian classic tactic.pic.twitter.com/bFDHmEtelw

Anybody arguing "Hitler came to power because people didn't riot/protest him at his events" has no idea of history. Is absolutely ignorant.

Hitler events during his rise to power were MARKED by brawls & fights between attendees & protesters. It was their singular characteristic.

This was no coincidence. Hitler & his ilk did everything they could to ensure people who'd fight them would find out & attend their rallies.

There can be nuanced discussion on protesting a rising authoritarian demagogue. "They didn't brawl with Hitler during his rise" is not one.

Although I'd argue politics as defined by Trump is ALREADY violent, & attempts to feign normalcy are counterproductive?
