Misunderstanding one: algorithms involve no human judgment. Also not really: algorithms reflect unconscious human biases.

Even Glenn Beck confused by claim Facebook is biased against conspiracy theorists like him. https://medium.com/@glennbeck/what-disturbed-me-about-the-facebook-meeting-3bbe0b96b87f#.9pkcc3fj6 …pic.twitter.com/JXl5CWUTyL

The real issue is the clicky, quarrelsome, upbeat biases of its algorithm.pic.twitter.com/oxxYriYC4m

I wrote about of Facebook but this applies to all subjective decision-making by algorithm. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/19/opinion/the-real-bias-built-in-at-facebook.html …pic.twitter.com/JI2upDV8VF

I'm a linguistic descriptivist; I'd push the coined word but would use what people accept & understand.. That's language for you.

I mean, I don't think it's fair to critique an 'algorithm' if it has a bounded definition to the audience you're critiquing.
