@davekarpf @kreissdaniel This is just starting. Information rich but asymmetric environment; much at stake; lots of money... Will continue.

@zeynep @kreissdaniel oh it'll definitely continue. But so will the overhyping. This company has made $2.5 MILLION off the Cruz campaign

@davekarpf @kreissdaniel So that's the current story and you are probably right. But I think Obama's shaping of turnout was key in 2008.

@zeynep @kreissdaniel I think internal analytics are WAY more important for campaigns than external analytics.

@davekarpf @kreissdaniel well internal/external will change too. Obama in-houses; Repubs hire consultants. Agree former more powerful.

@zeynep @davekarpf External: way harder to validate that interventions worked at individ level. Internal polling is way to do that.

@danielmintz @zeynep exACTly. External analytics relies on the data someone else provides. And they have their own institutional interests.

@davekarpf @zeynep That said, I think combo is critical. But w/o internal data collection, you can't validate.

@danielmintz @davekarpf Validation is huge issue but I think things are in the "improving" side. Also, even mistakes have consequences.

@zeynep @davekarpf Story of last 12 years of GOP technology programs would indicate that not ALL mistakes have consequences ;-)

@danielmintz @davekarpf I get the institutional failure story. I do. But things of this level of consequence can change quickly.

@danielmintz @davekarpf Also there are ecology level effects, possibly. Swing-statization at the household level, potentially.

@zeynep agreed. Though I'd worry more about targeted DEmobilization at hshld lvl. Not many undecideds lft. Plenty of dirty tricks potential.
