Seriously: school buses CAN'T be the safest design as is. And they're so inefficient! What cartel is behind it?https://twitter.com/emptywheel/status/643503918463455236 …

@DaveMc99TA And we really buy the "no seat belts are safe" thing there? Think only bc of all the rules abt buses, not the buses themselves.3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emptywheel@DaveMc99TA Yeah, buses have different center of gravity. I know it sounds like an excuse but lemme see if i can find paper.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@zeynep Right: but do school buses do better than city transit w/o that center of gravity? & Do school buses need clearance?@DaveMc99TA1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emptywheel@DaveMc99TA The current design (large and heavy and compartmentalized) is actually pretty safe. But yeah, also slow but ok.3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@zeynep I get the arg abt compartmentalization -- pickup manufacturers use the same one. But it can be done w/lower profile.@DaveMc99TA1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
@emptywheel @DaveMc99TA There is probably some room for improvement in design but meanwhile we have a fleet that exists and is super safe.
