Many have been doing [frustrated] outreach to un/under-vaccinated elderly relatives. But let me flag. It's a good time to urge parents you know to vaccinate their eligible kids. Not too late. Even one dose will confer some protection, and dampen transmission chains as well.

I read a lot of history, and also study some terrible current things, but even as I'm inured to so much awfulness, I'm always struck by all the child deaths in historical biographies. Vaccines, antibiotics, nutrition and sanitation... Nudge your friends. Even if one dose.

Seriously. I tell people to walk around an old graveyard, 19th-early 20th century, and notice all the graves of children. And not uncommon, the mothers next to it.
