This is interesting work, but I don’t know why authors bin the results (3-6 days) instead of just giving us the exact days. Also, why don’t we have our own studies like this? This is exactly what we need to know. And: I suspect this distribution may be bimodal by vax/symptom.https://twitter.com/longdeserttrain/status/1480179160052125699 …

1/6 Important new study from Japan finds that with Omicron, infectious viral loads peak 3-6 days after symptom onset/diagnosis. So many people are ending isolation & returning to work & school at peak infectiousness. Thanks, @CDCgov. h/t @gianlucac1 https://www.niid.go.jp/niid/en/2019-ncov-e/10884-covid19-66-en.html … pic.twitter.com/aDqZgoyxRb

There are two issues. Are rapid tests useful for ending/prolonging isolation? I think the answer is yes. Second issue is: if you don’t have enough of them, what are you gonna do as a coping strategy? That is also worth looking into, and ideally based on data like this.

Nothing is ideal without tests, but if it is bimodal, I’d be curious about spring the boosted/vaxxed without symptoms on day three and keep anyone with symptoms until two consequent symptom-free days, on or later than day five as one potential trade-off. (Wearing good masks).

I'm still weirded out that for all the chatter about Omicron this and Omicron that we don't have any confirmed peer-reviewed work on it -- but we act like we do. Or at least the CDC does.

I’m twice vaxxed and boosted and tested positive on 12/23. I didn’t leave my house til this past Friday. Just too risky because so much is unknown.

The boosted+vaxxed will continue to be such a small percentage that allowing shorter quarantine for them will not have the desired *economic* effect. These policies are about economics, not public health.

How long do we need to isolate For Delta Variant: The rapid antigen test typically turns negative in 8-10 days since exposure, while the PCR test may remain positive until day #13-14 since exposure. For Omicron Variant: Not yet defined. It could be 6-7 d https://www.ft.com/content/cbd0fb0a-8c41-4b9b-aa4c-0afa10619383 …

This case report (not me) is anecdata, but boosted and symptom-free from day 4, followed by clearly positive rapid tests on days 6 and 8.

I think that’s really being done to get first line workers back to work. That may have some merit rather than leaving all@of us underserved. However if you could it would be better to wait longer and perhaps have a negative pcr. This is really a risk management issue.
